While birding wasn't my primary purpose on this trip, I found plenty of time to look for birds, and actually kept my longest checklist streak on this trip. I got lots of new species on this trip, my favorite was definitely a male Western Tanager.
This Broad-Tailed Hummingbird was one of hundreds of migrating hummingbirds in the mountains. I find it funny that hummingbirds are so tiny, yet so aggressive. Watching them chase each other at high speeds off feeders is one of the most entertaining bird interactions in my opinion.
One day during lunch I noticed a small sparrow checking out leftover food at another table. This sparrow was a Dark-Eyed Junco (pictured above). I came across a cold and wet junco later on a hike, and he was cooperative enough to perch nicely on a fallen tree branch. I really like the uniformity of the green background in this image.
